An Explanation of The Meditative Fist

To begin with, there are 27 bones in the hand. These relate as follows:

8 in the wrist, signifying the Bagua (Eight Trigrams)

5 in the hand, to represent the Wu Xing (Five Elements)

3 in each finger (12 in all), indicating Heaven, Man and Earth, and

2 in the thumb signifying Yin and Yang

When the hand is folded into a fist, all these bones are joined together to represent “Dao”
